It is designed to alleviate some of the pressure felt during the competitive season. The surroundings into which they dive into are completely new and unfamiliar to their everyday training pools. You will usually find that the emphasis is to be outdoors a lot more given that most competitive swimming events are run indoors these days and enjoy a little of the sun while continuing to harness their butterfly and backstroke drills.
